After reviewing and scoring other AP Language argument essays, identify two important takeaways that you can apply to your own writing. Explain what you learned about claims, evidence, commentary, the “so what?” explanation, or the AP rubric. Use specific observations from the essays you reviewed. Write one complete paragraph.

Two imporant takeaways I can use after grading AP test submissions is to make sure it is has a thesis and it has correct grammar. If your thesis is anywhere in your introductory paragraph you gain an easy point. As well as if you tie all your writing back to your claim at the end of your writings. This is an easy point to achieve. These are 3 takeaways I can use in my writings. Summary: We graded and reviewed former test takers essays. Reflection: It is helpful to vision and see what a 6 is. And I also know how to get a 6 on my writings.

After reviewing the AP Lang Argument Essay rubric today, explain how you could use the rubric as a roadmap to improve your argument writing.

I use a rubric, as a road map to craft my writings around a rubric. This makes it easier to make sure I get full points for my writings. It makes me feel confident in knowing I have done what the teacher or test giver is asking for. If it requires a direct quote, I could fully make sure that I do provide a quote. This is how I use a rubric as a roadmap.   Summary: We developed claims for an argumentative essay with the prompt of overated.  Reflection: It made it fun to make claims about something I enjoyed and was passionate about. It made it easier to visualize what I needed to have my claims look like.

Think about a time when you completed an assignment without fully understanding what the teacher was looking for. How might knowing the “ins and outs” of a rubric change the way you approach an assignment? Connect your experience to what you learned today about the AP Lang Argument Essay rubric.

A time I completed an assignment without fully understanding what the teacher was looking for was when I had to write an essay in freshman year. Not knowing the exact rubric made me loose out on a few points that I most definitely could have had if I looked at the rubric. Knowing the ins and outs on the rubric for the AP exam, will make me feel super confident going into the exam. As well as knowing what to write and not to stress out on thinking I have missed stuff. This is how the ins and outs are helpful. Summary: We reviewed the official AP Lang essay argumentative essay rubric. reflection:  this was helpful to understand what college board was asking for on our writings. With knowing this I can have confidence going into the exam.

Prompt: Working with others can expose you to ideas or perspectives you may not have considered on your own. What is one idea, suggestion, or approach from a group member that improved your paragraph or changed the way you thought about the argument? Explain how it helped you.

An idea that was shared is certain language that we should use in our writings. This can make everyone in the group be stronger in their writings. It also made my idea shift a little bit and shifted my fellow group mates. It mostly depends on the scenario you are in to wait more than 2 hours for a restaraunt. My idea shifted by thinking it was dumb if there were other restaraunts. I also changed my group members minds by saying if it is a super nice place then it is valid. Summary: We finished our group argumanetive essays. Reflection: BY working in a group I have learned to create less arguments in a group. As well as increasing my writings strength that my peers have.

Prompt: Think of a time when you or someone you know used informal language in a situation where formal language may have been more appropriate. What happened? Looking back, what could have been said differently, and what did the situation teach you about choosing your words carefully?

A time where someone used informal language is when talking to a teacher. I have a friend who does not know how to be professional with this. Like a time when he wined to his teacher about not fixing his grade. By him doing this, she didn't give him a chance to fix his grade and instead of an A, he got a B. This was an example of when someone did not use formal language..  SUmmary: Today in class we reviewed other classmates writings.  Reflection: This helped me to see how other people write. it also helps me be able to give them feedback that I can use.

September 11th

I would say an event that was very bad to people in my community is when the school Appalache was shot up. This was so scary to me since that school was super close to Lakeside. This was the day after Labor Day, and the school was implicating YONDR two days later. This was scary, since this was super near to my school and everyone was worried. This is an event that impacted my community and I.  Summary: Today in class we changed our group essays based off of our classmates feedback. reflection: This helped me to be able to see how others view my writings. It was helpful to have another set of eyes on my writings.

Prompt: Write about something you’ve always been curious about.

Something I have always been curious about is being able to play the guitar. It is my favorite instraument to listen to and it always seems so cool to play. Like a guitar solo is one of the coolest things in my opinion in music. A guitar can really make a song sound so much better and complete. This is one thing I have always been curious about.  Summary: Today in class we worked together as a group to come up with group paragraphs. Reflection: Today I learned more on how to deal with group conflict. With this I will be a better group member in the future.

Prompt: Today, we learned how writers create a clear line of reasoning by connecting a claim, evidence, commentary, and conclusion. Which part of building an argument is most challenging for you, and why?

In my opinion crafting a claim is the hardest part for me. Since, claims have to be done a certain way or they are not strong or not valid. Another reason why is claims are a challenge for me is trying to fit them into my essay. As well as with doing my claims I am practicing on them. This is why claims are the hardest part for me in an argument.  Summary: Today in class we went over our writables and quiz score Reflection With seeing how I did in the future I can definitely write a new way. I need to be more specific in my writings.

Prompt: Write about a fear you have overcome.

A fear I have overcome is the being scared of the dark. When I was a little kid, I used to not be able to sleep in the dark. I had to have a night light on or otherwise I could not sleep.
